Dongshan 东山

Dongshan is an island located off the eastern coast of Fujian and is connected to the mainland by a short causeway. It was mainly used for military purposes in the past but has started to recently develop tourism as an alternative source of revenue for the county. The main attraction on this island is the Feng Dong Shi 风动石, which is a precariously balanced rock next to the coast and is said to waver whenever a wind blows on the rock.

Feng Dong Shi 风动石

Feng Dong Shi 风动石 is located at the coastal town of Tong Luo 铜锣 and is accessible either by public transport or by using one of the cute 3 wheeler taxis as seen below.

The attraction is gazetted as a national AAAA grade tourist attraction.

The old coastal settlements are located on steep cliffs and have additional fort like walls to guard against pirate attacks.

The rock is actually very firmly perched on the ledge and despite a stiff coastal wind, the rock did not move a single bit. Despite many warning signs, curiousity got better of many visitors and there is no better way to find out if the rock would really topple than to push! :)
